Product Description

Aluminum-clad steel wire, commonly known as ACS & abbreviated as AW or AS or AC, is a wire composed of an inner steel core and outer aluminum cladding, no less than 10% of the wire radius. These wire in concentric-lay make up Type M Guy Strand.

7-Wire Aluminum Clad strand Applications

Guy strand wires are connected, on one end, to the vertical structure they are intending to secure and the other end is attached to an anchor that is drilled into the ground. Their strength to weight ratio makes it ideal for supporting large structures to the ground. The process is called “guying” where the wire holds the vertical structure with stability, making an angle between the structure and the ground.

Advantages

Aluminum Clad Strand wires are known to provide advanced safety and quality to secure large structures. Their advantages are as follows – 1. Better corrosion resistance due to thick EC-grade pure aluminum protecting the steel core. 2. Bond between aluminum cladding and steel core is a continuous ductile weld which prevents cracking or separation. 3. Compared to EHS Steel Guy Strand, Type M Guy Strand weighs 15% lighter and has a 29% higher current carrying capacity & power loss decreases by 4–6%.
4. Excellent thermal stability.

Manufacturing Specifications

ASTM B415 – Bare, hard-drawn, round, Aluminum-clad Steel wire composed of a steel core with a substantially uniform continuous aluminum covering thoroughly bonded to it.

ASTM B416 – Bare concentric-lay-stranded conductors made from bare, hard-drawn, round, Aluminum-clad Steel wires for general use of electrical purposes.
